Is there "aftercare" for slaves ever or does the slave provide
the "aftercare" to the Master?

"Aftercare" is a period of cooling down after a play session. It is often psychologically and emotionally rewarding for both Dom and sub and depending on the intensity of the session, can be absolutely mandatory for the well-being of the players.
Physical aftercare is usually provided by the Dom to the sub, to attend to first aid matters (see the post on Flogging for an example).
Emotional and/or psychological aftercare can be handled in a variety of ways, with no "right" or "wrong" way to do it, and the purpose is to allow pent-up intensity to dissipate and for the Dom and sub to come down from their adrenaline high together. Sometimes this is done silently, perhaps in an embrace. Sometimes, the two may discuss the session and relay the feelings and emotions felt during the various activities.
Aftercare is important for BOTH the Dom and sub, but for different reasons. The sub may need emotional reassurance that he is loved and cared for, especially after a difficult-to-endure session. The Dom may want to show his appreciation and admiration for the sub in ways that don't necessarily fit in with a play session. It's all very much a two-way street. If either of you isn't getting his physical and/or needs met during aftercare, then that should be addressed at some time outside of a play session.
